SAME, Boston Post 2010 SCHOLARSHIP INSTITUTIONAL PROCEDURES : top of page

In January and February 2010 institutions will screen students, subject to the 2010 Scholarship Criteria. Schools with endowed scholarships must submit at least one more nominee than there are endowed scholarships.

By February 19, 2010, institutions will forward the following for each nominee:

a. |
Resume', home and school address, and personal data characterizing the student's (1) academic and career objectives, (2) extracurricular and community activities, (3) work experience, and (4) special interests or hobbies;
- Current transcripts;
- Summary of financial need information;
- Summary of current financial aid;
- Letter of transmittal highlighting individual's qualifications and needs; and,
- Nominee's personal letter to the Scholarship Committee.

Students applying for scholarships should provide the items listed in paragraph 2 above, to their financial aid office, for subsequent forwarding to the POC of the Scholarship Committee listed below.

The nominee's letter should help the Committee's interview, and could be used to bring to the Committee's attention items not suitable for or apparent from the resumes and transcripts. The nominee should include a brief sentence or two citing the reason(s) why they should be selected for an award.

Interviews will be conducted by the Scholarship Committee on or about the first week of April 2010. The Scholarship Committee will coordinate with the institution who in turn will notify the student. Winners and their institution will be notified by the Committee. Disbursement of scholarship awards will be coordinated with the institution by follow-up correspondence in April 2010. Scholarship funds will be issued in August 2010 for the 2010/2011 academic year.

The full amount of the SAME scholarship award must be assigned to the designated student winner. No portion of SAME funds may be directed to the institution's general scholarship or a similar fund. The institution shall not deduct this scholarship from the overall financial aid to the recipient. This scholarship is in addition to Financial Aid being provided to the student.

SAME, Boston Post 2010 SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA : top of page

The nominee is to be a United States citizen, living in New England, who is currently enrolled in an accepted engineering or architectural curriculum at the candidate institution; preferably in civil engineering, environmental engineering, architecture, or other construction related program.

The nominee will have completed successfully at least one academic year or its equivalent, and will have at least one year remaining (i.e., Sophomore or Junior Standing).

| 3. |
Nominees must be available to meet and interview with the SAME Scholarship Committee. Interviews will be conducted on or about the first week of April 2010, at the Maxymillian Technologies, Inc. (890 Winter Street, Suite 225, Waltham, MA 02451, Phone: (781) 890-8670). Nominees will be notified by the institution no later than the last week of March. The Scholarship Committee will notify winners within two weeks following the interview. The Committee will coordinate separately with the institution.

Nominees will be considered on the following basis:
Academic Achievement (transcripts to be provided by institution);
Financial need (documented by letter from Financial Aid Office);
Extracurricular and community activities (included on resume'); and,
Candidate's letter and the Interview.

Although not a requirement for award, SAME preference would be given to students enrolled in ROTC (preferably not a recipient of a ROTC scholarship) or interested in, enrolled, or having prior U.S. military service and/or public service.

Scholarship winners must attend the SAME Boston Post Annual Spring Meeting luncheon on May 18, 2010 to accept the scholarship personally. Winners will be provided with one guest ticket.

Boston Post 2010 Scholarship Procedures Criteria for Child/Grandchild of Post Member : top of page

Each year the Boston Post awards Endowed and Post scholarships to students from select colleges and universities in New England. In addition, the Post may award a scholarship(s) to the child or grandchild of a Post member in accordance with the following:

| 1. |
The nominee will be the child or grandchild of a Boston Post member. The member must have been a member in good standing of the Boston Post for at least 24 months prior to the nominee's application being submitted.

| 2. |
The nominee shall follow the schedule, application requirements and interview procedures as established by the Post Scholarship Committee.
|
| 3. |
The nominee shall be a New England resident and a sophomore or junior enrolled in an accepted engineering or science curriculum at any college or university in the United States.
|
| 4. |
Nominees will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee for award. The Committee reserves the right not to award this scholarship or to limit the number of awards in a given year.
